Gunjan Mishra, a volunteer of 'Parvarish' The Museum School, recently joined TCS in Bangalore. She called up the founders of Parvarish to know if The Museum School was functioning in Bangalore too. When told that she could start it there along with Rohit Choudhary, she wasn’t quite sure how the Founders knew about her colleague Rohit, who also happened to be her classmate while doing engineering at RGPV. She was dumbfounded to know that Rohit hailed from the slums of Baanskhedi, and was a former student at Parvarish - The Museum School, the same place where Gunjan started volunteering, back in her college days. She was both surprised and elated to realize that a volunteer teacher and an ex-student were at the same level of education and job. This is one of the few examples of how Parvarish -The Museum School, has been building the lives of underprivileged children and empowering them since 2005.

Realizing the need for quality education among underprivileged children, Organisation for Awareness of Integrated Social Security (OASIS) - A Social Innovation Lab in MP, embarked upon a mission to remove the disparity in quality of education in urban areas. This resulted in the establishment of a unique model of education called ‘Parvarish - The Museum School’. The model follows a curriculum designed to provide holistic education to underprivileged children Interestingly, education in Parvarish is imparted through exhibits in museums. For this, the school has collaborated with 5 museums in Bhopal.

The Museum School has groomed over 3500 children, some of whom are pursuing engineering, graduation, performing arts, while some have started their own ventures for livelihood. Parvarish takes a fixed number of out-of-school children from slums every year and grooms them so that they can join a mainstream school thereafter. They also provide education to those who cannot afford to go to school. The ones who teach are usually volunteers willing to render their services or youngsters who were once students at the school. Anybody willing to volunteer can either get in touch with the organization or express their willingness in the comment section below. Volunteers will be provided certificates for their effort on completion of 24 working days.

While children are mainstreamed through regular schools and National Open Schools for examinations and certifications, the objective is to make them self-employable and responsible members of society. As a non-profit organization, the cost of expenditure for the education of children is borne through good Samaritans who either adopt children financially and take care of the expenses, or make regular contributions for the welfare of the school.

Education is the key to bringing a change in the world at large. Our small efforts of educating even one child can go a long way. Given our busy schedules, it might not be possible to be physically present to teach them. However, as responsible members of society, with a decent purchasing power, the least we can do is to make a contribution towards the education of children by adopting them financially and taking care of their educational expenses. Do you think it is possible to bring a change in the lives of these children and their families by educating them equally?
