Are you a bird lover? Do you like to capture migratory birds visiting Madhya Pradesh? This could be your chance to get a certificate from Bhopal Birds Conservation Society, who is organizing a photography contest on migratory birds.

Winter is almost here and it’s time of the year when birds from far and wide hibernate to the Indian subcontinent to avoid the biting cold of the West. Every year, migratory birds of varied colours and different sizes flock to the wetlands of Madhya Pradesh, making it a visual delight. About 370 species of birds migrate to India every year. Of this, 175 species of birds use the Central Asian FlyWay.

Wetlands across Madhya Pradesh are famous for housing these migratory birds for a span of three to four months. Given its favourable conditions, the wetlands attract a large number of bird species. From Drongo to Bee-Eater, Greylay Goose, Black-Necked Stork, Comb Duck, Gadwall, Red-naped Ibis, Eurasian Spoonbill etc, the winged visitors make winters a delightful time for ornithologists in the state. One can even get lucky in spotting Greater Flamingos in the wetland. The large influx of the winged visitors give photography lovers the perfect reason to bring out their cameras and make the best of the winter months. It is needless to mention that birdwatching is one of the favourite winter activities among birders in the state.

However, owing to the crisis of habitat, excessive hunting, pollution, and numerous other factors, migratory birds are gradually losing it out to the jungles of concrete. These factors are posing a threat to the existence of migratory birds. It is time to act fast before these tiny creatures become extinct, which will adversely disturb the balance in the ecosystem.

To raise awareness on migratory birds and their preservation, Bhopal Birds Conservation Society is organizing the photography contest, wherein participants are requested to share photographs of migratory birds they have captured with their lens, along with details including their local name, location and date of the click, etc on mp.mygov.in. The relevant and original entries will be awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation by the organization.

So what are you waiting for? Pull out your cameras and start shooting and sharing with us. Happy Birding!

Note: More than two entries will not be accepted and the entries must be relevant.
