As a result of effective implementation of maternal safety programmes in Madhya Pradesh, a decline has been registered in maternal mortality rate in the state.

Nutrition plays an important role in maternal and child health.

Majority of women suffer from a combination of chronic energy deficiency, poor weight gain in pregnancy, anemia, and other micronutrient deficiencies. These along with inadequate obstetric care contribute to high rates of maternal mortality and poor birth outcomes.

What a woman takes during pregnancy is her baby's main source of nourishment. Improvement in maternal health will also improve the nutritional status of children in Madhya Pradesh.

ICDS, Women and Child Development Department invites your suggestions on ways to increase awareness about maternal nutrition, encourage nutrition education and counseling to improve the nutritional status of women during pregnancy.

Lady doctors and other women health experts must play a active
role in educating, counseling pregnant women. They shall volunteer to take part in conducting awareness camps to assist, guide and help in understanding pregnancy related requisites of care, precautions and how to handle emergency situations. Lady doctors also need to educate pregnant women about the need to follow a healthy nutritious diet that is essential for birth of a healthy baby. Nutritious food and adequate rest is a must.
