Undernutrition among children and pregnant women can lead to children being underweight, stunted, low body mass, etc. This severely affects the immunity system and restricts growth and development in them.

Nutrition is the birth right of every child and if this is violated due to ignorance and lack of access to health services then it is truly a national shame.

All of us, civil society, NGOs, INGOs should join hands with the Government of India to address this on war foot. It would be good to see some innovative methods of addressing malnutrition here.

Malnutrition among children is a big concern for a developing
nation like us. Awareness about the need to maintain a nutritious diet needs to be created. Pregnant women needs to consume food rich with iron, calcium, proteins, vitamins and other nutrition. Balanced diet with appropriate level of nutrition needs to be consumed for which a experienced and certified doctor can be consulted. Breastfeeding for babies till the age of 3 is a must as,it will help in building a strong immune system.

Focusing on the first 1,000 days of the child’s life is important. In this period, the child needs to be well-nourished to avoid incidence of malnutrition.
The food should be balanced and other micronutrients foods such as those rich in folic acid, especially for pregnant women.
After birth, the child should be breastfed exclusively for six months then complimentary foods should be introduced.
Both the husband and wife have a task to ensure their baby is healthy.
